Napoli and Chelsea's interest in Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has lulled.
While lines of communication have remained open with the Serie A side, there's been no movement on an improved offer, with the clubs 10m Euros apart in their valuations.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have yet to formally register their interest with United, with the sense that they are biding their time and waiting for the opportunity to strike.
There is growing belief that the player prefers to remain in the Premier League, and if Enzo Maresca's side do make a move for the 20-year-old, United would expect a higher fee from a Premier League rival.
United are relaxed, as they are not desperate to sell Garnacho, and have always maintained his departure would depend on there being an offer they couldn't turn down.
Ruben Amorim has been happy with the Argentina international's professionalism, application and adjustment to his tactical demands, especially defensively.
'Garnacho has shown willingness to implement Amorim's demands'
Garnacho has shown a willingness to implement Amorim's demands. Game by game we can see him adjusting to the system and how he would fit in. The issue is while United don't actively want to sell him they are not in the financial position to turn down a sizeable sum for Garnacho.
Napoli are more concrete in wanting Garnacho because they have had discussions with United about signing him there is a 10m euro gap in valuation between the clubs. Napoli don't want to go above 55m but United want 65m.
The other issue Napoli have is the alternative target, Karim Adeyemi, doesn't want to leave Dortmund he only wants a summer move. There is confidence that a compromise can be reached between the two sides while Chelsea are biding their time.
A sale of Garnacho would definitely arm United with the funds to be able to both in the short and long term look for players that work in Amorim's system. If Garnacho leaves, they definitely have to bring in a forward because they will be left short offensively.
I know that they have been making a number of checks around Europe for a forward. So if Garnacho goes, they will have the funds to do that.
Man Utd closing in on £30m Dorgu move
Patrick Dorgu is expected to fly into Manchester on Wednesday after Manchester United agreed a deal worth just under £30m to sign the Lecce left-back.
United are tying up all the paperwork and the player is waiting for the final green light to fly to the northwest for a medical and to complete the move.
The fee agreed is understood to be £25.2m plus £4.2m in add-ons.
As Sky Sports News reported upon Amorim's appointment, left wing-back has been circled as the priority position and was the one transfer highly likely to happen in this window regardless of the club's situation.
Dorgu, 20, has made 53 appearances for Lecce in Serie A since joining from Danish club Nordsjaelland in 2022 and has been capped four times by Denmark.
The January transfer window is OPEN!
