Carlo Ancelotti Clarifies Comments on Real Madrid’s Club World Cup Participation

Published on Jun, 13 2024

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti recently clarified remarks made to an Italian daily regarding the club's participation in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup. Ancelotti's initial comments were interpreted as suggesting that Real Madrid, the 15-time Champions League winners, would decline FIFA's invitation due to undervalued compensation.

Ancelotti had been quoted by Il Giornale as saying, "FIFA can forget it, footballers and clubs will not participate in that tournament," in response to the compensation proposed for the new 32-team format. However, Ancelotti distanced himself from these comments in a social media post on Monday.

"Nothing could be further from my interest than to reject the possibility of playing in a tournament that I consider to be a great opportunity to continue fighting for major titles with Real Madrid," Ancelotti clarified.

Real Madrid’s Commitment to Club World Cup
Real Madrid swiftly reaffirmed their commitment to the Club World Cup, stating that their participation was never in doubt.

"Our club will take part, as planned, in this official competition which we face with pride and with the utmost enthusiasm to once again make our millions of fans all over the world dream of a new title," read the club's official statement.

Ancelotti’s Prestigious Career
Ancelotti, one of the most successful managers in European football, has won the Club World Cup three times and the Champions League five times. His recent success with Real Madrid includes a Champions League and La Liga double last season.

Despite the initial controversy, Ancelotti emphasized the importance of maintaining passion and balance in his career, especially amid the increasing pressures on football managers.

"I see nothing particularly new, this has always been our job but the case of (former Liverpool manager Juergen) Klopp is significant. The pressure continues, the burden of responsibility becomes too heavy, obsession takes over," he said. "I keep my passion, that's how I live the match, the game, my job; I've always carried this balance with me. I've overcome moments that weren't always positive; after my experience with Everton I was off the radar, they thought I was finished, I was old."

As Real Madrid prepares for the upcoming Club World Cup, the focus remains on adding another prestigious title to their illustrious history, with Ancelotti at the helm, steering the team towards continued success
