Fining Jude Bellingham would at least be consistent of UEFA - they must not ban him

Jude Bellingham delivered a crucial performance that saved England from a humiliating exit against Slovakia. His heroics on the field were pivotal in securing a vital result, which not only ensured England's progression but also potentially saved manager Gareth Southgate's job.

Bellingham’s celebration following his decisive goal has stirred controversy, drawing comparisons to past incidents in European football. In Spain, both Cristiano Ronaldo and Atletico Madrid's head coach Diego Simeone were fined for performing the “big balls” celebration during their Champions League clash in 2019. UEFA deemed it an obscene gesture, demonstrating their willingness to penalize such actions.

This goal was monumental for England, signifying character, nerves of steel, and composure under pressure—qualities embodied by Bellingham. His popularity across Europe continues to soar, following his trophy-winning stint with Borussia Dortmund and his impressive ten months at Real Madrid.

Bellingham’s rise has been remarkable. Many seasoned football analysts feared he might struggle to make an impact in his first season at Real Madrid, especially before his 21st birthday. However, he has defied expectations, proving himself to be a critical player for both his club and country.

Having interviewed Bellingham personally, it's evident that he is an inspirational young man with a maturity far beyond his years. He comes from a strong background and is not one to deliberately cause offense. His actions on the field are a testament to his passion and commitment rather than any intent to provoke.

Given the precedent set by UEFA with Ronaldo and Simeone, it would be consistent for them to fine Bellingham for his celebration rather than imposing a ban. The Saudi Pro League banned Ronaldo for a similar gesture in February, but a fine would be a more fitting response for Bellingham, allowing him to continue his essential role in the England squad.

As England's star, Bellingham has much more to accomplish, particularly in Germany, where his performance will be crucial in upcoming fixtures. The focus should remain on his exceptional talent and contributions to the team, rather than the controversy surrounding his celebration.
