FC Barcelona delivered a commanding performance at home, defeating CA Osasuna 3-0 to retain their position at the top of the La Liga table. The result, which came in a rescheduled fixture originally postponed in March, underscores Barça’s strong form and title ambitions as the 2024–25 season enters its final stretch.
.The hosts took control early, with Ferran Torres opening the scoring in the 11th minute. A brilliant run and low cross from Alejandro Balde found Torres perfectly positioned to tap the ball in, sending a clear message of intent from the Catalan giants. Barcelona’s aggressive pressing and quick transitions overwhelmed Osasuna, who struggled to get out of their half.
The pressure paid off again in the 21st minute when Dani Olmo won a penalty after being brought down in the box. Though his initial attempt was saved by Osasuna’s goalkeeper Sergio Herrera, the referee ordered a retake due to encroachment. Olmo made no mistake the second time, calmly dispatching the ball to double Barcelona’s advantage.
Substitute Robert Lewandowski sealed the win in the 77th minute, heading home a pinpoint cross from Fermín López to complete the dominant display. The goal marked a welcome return to the scoresheet for the Polish striker, who came off the bench to make an immediate impact.
With the win, Barcelona move up to 63 points from 28 matches, now three points ahead of Real Madrid and seven clear of Atlético Madrid. The victory continues an unbeaten streak in 2025 and solidifies their title credentials as the season builds toward a dramatic finish.
Osasuna, by contrast, looked out of sorts and offered little in response. They have now won just one of their last 15 league matches, and their lack of offensive threat was evident throughout the match. The defeat leaves them languishing mid-table, with little to play for in the remaining weeks of the season.
Despite the absence of key figures like Raphinha and Ronald Araújo, Barcelona’s squad depth shone through. However, there was concern when Dani Olmo had to be withdrawn after scoring his goal, potentially adding to the team’s injury list ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures.
As Barça continue their domestic and European campaigns, this result serves as a statement of strength and unity. With young stars and seasoned veterans blending seamlessly, the Catalan side looks increasingly like the team to beat in this season’s La Liga race.
