Bayern Munich preserved their six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga after a thrilling 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena. In an electrifying edition of Der Klassiker, Waldemar Anton’s second-half equalizer ensured Dortmund left Munich with a hard-earned point, dampening Bayern’s hopes of tightening their grip on the title.
The match was a story of momentum swings and individual brilliance. Dortmund struck first early in the second half when Maximilian Beier rose to meet Julian Ryerson’s cross, powering a header beyond Bayern keeper Jonas Urbig in the 48th minute. The goal shocked the home crowd and injected new life into a Dortmund side that had suffered a bruising 4-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona days earlier.
But Bayern responded in style. Manager Vincent Kompany turned to his bench, and substitute Raphaël Guerreiro paid immediate dividends, leveling the score in the 65th minute with a precise finish after good build-up play from Thomas Müller.
Just four minutes later, the Allianz erupted as Serge Gnabry produced the moment of the match. Picking up the ball 35 meters from goal, the winger weaved through Dortmund’s midfield and unleashed a thunderous strike that left Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel rooted. Bayern led 2-1 and looked poised to pull away.
However, Dortmund weren’t done. In the 75th minute, Serhou Guirassy's acrobatic bicycle kick forced a sharp save from Urbig, but Waldemar Anton was on hand to convert the rebound and stun the home side once more.
Bayern dominated the ball with 62% possession and outshot Dortmund 11-3 on target, but were ultimately forced to settle for a draw. With Bayer Leverkusen also drawing 0-0 with Union Berlin earlier in the day, Bayern’s position atop the table remains intact — they sit on 69 points after 29 matches, six ahead of second-placed Leverkusen.
For Dortmund, currently eighth with 42 points, the draw offered a welcome boost ahead of their uphill Champions League second-leg clash with Barcelona. However, their hopes of securing a top-four finish remain slim, trailing by six points with five games to go.
As the Bundesliga season enters its final stretch, Bayern remain in the driver’s seat, but with Leverkusen still in the hunt, every point will matter — and performances like this Klassiker remind everyone that no lead is safe in Germany’s top flight.
