Caleb Okoli Salvages Draw for Leicester as Foxes Halt Losing Streak Against Brighton

Published on Apr 12, 2025

Leicester City finally ended their miserable run of form with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, thanks to a late header from Caleb Okoli that snapped an eight-game losing streak and ended a goal drought of over 13 hours.

The match saw both sides exchange blows in an entertaining encounter that left Brighton frustrated in their chase for European qualification and gave Leicester a glimmer of fight in their ongoing relegation battle.

Brighton struck first in the 31st minute when João Pedro converted a penalty following a handball by Leicester defender Conor Coady. It was a familiar story for the Foxes, who have endured a season plagued by poor form and profligacy in front of goal.

But just seven minutes later, Stephy Mavididi brought relief to the traveling Leicester fans. The winger cut in from the left and unleashed a powerful shot past Jason Steele to level the score and end the club’s alarming 13-hour goal drought in the Premier League.

Brighton regained the lead early in the second half when Pedro was again called upon from the penalty spot, this time after Luke Thomas fouled Matt O'Riley in the box. Pedro made no mistake, bagging his second of the afternoon and putting the Seagulls back in control.

et Leicester, showing rare resilience, pushed forward and were rewarded in the 74th minute. Caleb Okoli rose highest to meet Bilal El Khannouss' well-delivered free kick, steering a powerful header past Steele to equalize and claim a valuable point for the Foxes.

The draw keeps Leicester second from bottom in 19th place, with 18 points from 32 games 14 points adrift of safety with just six matches remaining. Despite the precarious position, the result may provide a crucial morale boost ahead of their daunting trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on April 20.

Brighton, meanwhile, sit in ninth place with 48 points. Their hopes of securing European football took a knock as they dropped points at home against struggling opposition. They’ll aim to bounce back when they travel to Brentford on April 19.

For Leicester, the mission is survival and on a windy afternoon in Brighton, they finally gave themselves something to build on.
