Carlo Ancelotti Hints at Uncertain Future at Real Madrid Amid Brazil Speculation

Published on Apr 16, 2025

Carlo Ancelotti has sparked fresh uncertainty over his future at Real Madrid, admitting he "could be done tomorrow" in the wake of the club’s disappointing Champions League quarter-final exit to Arsenal. The 3-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium not only brought Real Madrid’s European campaign to an abrupt end but also intensified speculation linking Ancelotti with a possible move to the Brazil national team.

The Italian manager, who is under contract with Los Blancos until June 2026, sought to downplay any immediate decisions, stating, “I shouldn’t talk about things about my future, because the contract is quite clear. Whatever it is, it will be discussed at the end of the season. The club always supports me, especially in difficult moments.” However, the tone of his comments suggested that a premature exit could be on the table if performances fail to meet expectations.

Ancelotti, who has managed elite clubs across Europe and won trophies at every stop, has long been admired by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The CBF previously attempted to lure him into international management, viewing him as a stabilizing force for the Seleção after years of managerial turnover. Despite the appeal, Ancelotti has consistently rejected overtures, citing his deep love for the day-to-day involvement of club football.

I really like being on the pitch daily to prepare training sessions. That’s the only reason,” Ancelotti explained, when asked why he previously turned down Brazil’s offer. His remarks suggest a coach still fueled by the routines and rhythms of club life a lifestyle that international management may not provide.

Still, with Real Madrid now out of Europe and facing a critical end to their domestic campaign, the speculation has gained momentum. Reports suggest that the CBF is continuing to assess its options, with Al Hilal manager Jorge Jesus reportedly emerging as a strong candidate should Ancelotti once again decline the role.

For now, Ancelotti remains focused on his duties at the Santiago Bernabéu, but the coming weeks could prove decisive. Should Real Madrid fail to secure silverware, Florentino Pérez and the club’s hierarchy may face a difficult decision about the manager’s future and Ancelotti, in turn, will have to weigh whether the time is right to finally answer Brazil’s call.
