Manchester City’s title charge remained firmly on track as they swept aside Leicester City with a composed and confident 2-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Jack Grealish and January signing Omar Marmoush. Under the lights at the Etihad, City turned on the style in a match that rarely looked out of their control.
It was Grealish who broke the deadlock in the first half, gliding past defenders with familiar ease and finishing with a curling shot into the bottom corner that left the Leicester goalkeeper rooted. The England international, returning to peak form at the business end of the season, was a constant threat throughout pulling strings, drawing fouls, and orchestrating City’s rhythm in attack.
While Leicester showed flashes of energy and attempted to counter through pace, Pep Guardiola’s men were simply too polished in possession. City’s midfield dominance stifled the Foxes’ momentum, and any rare foray into the final third was swiftly extinguished by a backline led with calm authority by Rúben Dias.
The second goal arrived in the 67th minute and it was Marmoush, the Egyptian international, who applied the finishing touch. Latching onto a perfectly weighted pass from Mateo Kovacic, Marmoush showed great composure to slot home his fourth goal since joining City in January. The former Eintracht Frankfurt man has settled seamlessly into Guardiola’s system and looks more dangerous with each outing.
Leicester, struggling for consistency this season, looked second-best in almost every department. A late half-chance was tipped wide by Ederson, but there was little real threat to City's clean sheet. The reigning champions, meanwhile, never had to shift out of third gear.
The victory extends Manchester City’s unbeaten run and keeps them in close contention at the top of the Premier League table as the season approaches its defining stretch. With Grealish resurgent and Marmoush emerging as a reliable weapon in attack, Guardiola has every reason to be optimistic as the fixtures pile up.
As the final whistle blew, the Etihad faithful applauded a performance that was more methodical than magical but it was everything City needed. Three points, two goals, and zero fuss. Business as usual.
