Inter Milan have advanced to the UEFA Champions League semifinals for the second consecutive season, holding Bayern Munich to a dramatic 2-2 draw at the San Siro on Wednesday night to seal a 4-3 aggregate victory. The result ends Bayern’s campaign and sets up a blockbuster semifinal clash between Inter and Barcelona.
After a tense and goalless first half, the match exploded into life in the second period. Harry Kane opened the scoring for Bayern in the 52nd minute, striking home clinically to give the German side hope of overturning their first-leg deficit. But Inter responded swiftly and emphatically.
Lautaro Martínez, who has been in outstanding form throughout the campaign, levelled the score just six minutes later with a composed finish. Barely three minutes after that, former Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard struck against his old club to restore Inter’s two-goal cushion on aggregate.
Bayern were not done yet. In the 76th minute, Eric Dier pulled one back with a towering header from a corner, making it 2-2 on the night and setting up a nervy finale. The German champions pressed for a winner that would force extra time, but Inter’s defense, marshalled by Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni, stood firm in the face of relentless pressure.
The draw marked the end of a spirited but ultimately short-lived comeback for Bayern, who will rue missed opportunities and lapses in concentration across both legs. It also marks another disappointment in Europe for the German giants, despite Harry Kane’s goal making him the top English scorer in Champions League history.
For Inter, the result confirms their resurgence as a European powerhouse under Simone Inzaghi. The Nerazzurri showed balance, resilience, and composure across the two legs and now look forward to a semifinal showdown with Barcelona a clash rich in history and promise.
As the Champions League reaches its final stretch, Inter's combination of experience and attacking quality makes them a formidable contender. With players like Martínez, Çalhanoğlu, and Barella stepping up in key moments, they’ll head into the last four full of belief and momentum.
