Kevin De Bruyne has admitted he was "a bit surprised" to learn that Manchester City would not be offering him a new contract, bringing an emotional chapter in the club's history closer to its end. The Belgian midfielder, whose current deal expires in June 2025, revealed he had not received any extension offer and was informed of the decision during a brief meeting with City’s top executives.
A Sudden End to a Glittering Era
Speaking candidly, De Bruyne shared his feelings of surprise but acknowledged the realities of modern football:
"I still think I can perform at this level like I'm showing. But I also understand that football is a business, and the club has to make decisions."
De Bruyne’s comments come amid a challenging season for Manchester City, where their Champions League qualification hopes have been placed under significant pressure.
