Manchester United Open Talks to Sign Wolves Forward Matheus Cunha

Published on Apr 22, 2025

Manchester United have opened talks to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, as the club looks to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the 2025-26 season. The Brazilian international has impressed this year, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists in all competitions, and United are seriously considering triggering his £62.5 million release clause.

Cunha, 25, has emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout performers, known for his versatility across the front line, technical ability, and tireless work rate. Despite signing a contract extension with Wolves as recently as February, Cunha is reportedly keen on a move to a club competing regularly for major trophies. Sources close to the player suggest he would welcome a transfer to Old Trafford.

United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, has made revamping the attack a top priority as he plans a rebuild this summer. With the futures of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Casemiro uncertain and United likely needing to sell players to comply with financial regulations the club is hoping to fund part of the move by offloading several high earners.

Cunha’s profile fits perfectly with Amorim’s preferred style of play, which demands high-energy pressing and fluid movement in the final third. Manchester United, however, are not alone in their pursuit. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool have also been linked with interest in Cunha, meaning United may have to move swiftly to secure his signature.

The Red Devils are confident that the appeal of playing under Amorim and competing for top honors will give them an edge in negotiations. As discussions continue, United fans will be hoping Cunha can be the dynamic addition needed to reignite their push for domestic and European success.
