Ruben Amorim: Summer Transfer Window Will Be “Crucial” for Manchester United Rebuild

Published on Apr 06, 2025

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has underlined the importance of the upcoming summer transfer window, describing it as "crucial" in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports. As the Portuguese tactician prepares for his first full summer in charge at Old Trafford, Amorim made it clear that this transfer window will shape the future of the club and lay the foundation for long-term success.

Amorim, who took over in the wake of United’s recent struggles for consistency and silverware, believes a focused and strategic approach to recruitment is essential not just to improve the squad but to ensure a strong and productive pre-season.

“If you look at the schedule of teams, we will not have the Club World Cup, so that means we are going to have a proper pre-season. This window is going to be massive to work on our base,” Amorim said.

Rather than chasing star names for the sake of headlines, the former Sporting CP boss made it clear that he wants players who fit his system and vision for Manchester United.

“When I say big players, it's not players from Real Madrid. It's big players in the way I see the game. We want one or two signings that match our identity and bring balance.”

With new financial regulations and UEFA’s sustainability rules in play, Amorim also acknowledged the need for smart spending. That may involve offloading existing players to generate funds and create space for new talent.

“We need to be really good in recruitment,” he added. “That might mean letting some players go, but everything will be based on what's best for the squad overall.”

One bright spot in Amorim’s current project is the emergence of youth talent something he has long championed. He pointed to 18-year-old Ayden Heaven, signed from Arsenal, as an example of how fresh faces can make an immediate impact.

“Ayden is a kid that arrived here, worked really well, and then with some injuries, he had the opportunity. He’s shown a lot of qualities.”

Amorim's comments come at a pivotal time for Manchester United. The club is aiming to re-establish itself among the elite in English and European football after seasons of managerial changes and inconsistent form. Under Amorim, the emphasis is now shifting toward long-term planning, player development, and building a squad tailored to a modern, dynamic style of football.

As fans look ahead to the summer, expectations are high. But if Amorim’s measured approach and clear vision are anything to go by, United’s next chapter could be shaped not just by how much they spend but by how wisely they do it.
