Juventus has officially appointed Thiago Motta as their new manager, ending a month-long search following the departure of Massimiliano Allegri. Allegri's exit came in the wake of the controversy that surrounded the team's Coppa Italia final triumph.
Motta's Appointment
After parting ways with Allegri, Juventus quickly identified Motta as their top candidate. The 41-year-old has now signed a deal to take over the reins in Turin this summer.
“I am really happy to begin a new chapter at the helm of a great club like Juventus," Motta said on the club's official website. "I thank the owners and the management, who can be sure of my ambition to keep the Juventus flag flying high and to please the fans.”
Impressive Tenure at Bologna
Motta arrives at Juventus following an impressive two-year spell with Bologna. Under his leadership, Bologna qualified for the Champions League for the first time and finished just three points behind Juventus in the Serie A standings. The former Paris Saint-Germain and Inter midfielder earned significant praise for Bologna's positive style of play, which led to club-record points tallies in both of his seasons.
Challenges Ahead
Motta faces the significant challenge of leading Juventus back to the top of the Serie A table. The club has not lifted the league title since 2020 and this past season marked their first appearance in the top three in four years.
Transfer Plans
Motta has already begun participating in transfer discussions with Juventus chiefs. He has reportedly approved a move for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, which could see Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling Jr move to the Premier League in exchange.
