Beckham Calls Out Minnesota United Over “Disrespectful” Post After 4-1 Win Against Inter Miami

Published on May 12, 2025

David Beckham has publicly criticized Minnesota United after the club mocked Inter Miami on social media following a shocking 4-1 defeat at Allianz Field. The co-owner of Inter Miami took offense to Minnesota’s post referring to his club as the "Pink Phony Club"—a jab at the team’s pink kit and brand image, a play on the popular song “Pink Pony Club.”

Beckham, who rarely engages in post-match drama, fired back with a direct Instagram comment:

“Show a little respect, be elegant in triumph.”
The online clash ignited further when Minnesota followed up with a second post, flaunting a banner that read "History Over Hype, Culture Over Cash," with the words “hype” and “cash” highlighted in pink—a clear swipe at Inter Miami’s marketing-first identity. Beckham once again responded, this time stating,

“Respect over everything.”

Messi Scores, But Miami Slump Continues

Even with Lionel Messi scoring his 44th goal for the club, the defeat marked Inter Miami’s fourth loss in five matches, deepening the team’s 2025 losing streak and raising questions ahead of the Club World Cup.

Inter manager Javier Mascherano acknowledged the downturn, saying:

“We need to correct a lot before our next challenge. These losses hurt, but we must stay united.”
Despite their form, Inter Miami still sits fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, with a playoff spot within reach. However, the social media reaction and trolling post from Minnesota has added an emotional layer to what is becoming an emerging MLS rivalry.

MLS Rivalries Turn Personal

This incident has fueled a wider sportsmanship debate in MLS, as many fans and pundits weigh in on whether Minnesota’s jabs crossed the line or simply added fuel to the growing fire of competitive spirit in the league.

With Minnesota United currently second in the Western Conference and Inter Miami still commanding headlines globally thanks to Messi, this clash isn’t just about three points—it’s about culture, image, and rivalry.
