The 2024/25 Premier League season is heading for a thrilling finish, with European qualification spots still being contested across the final weekend. From the Champions League to the Conference League, here's how things stand and what fans should watch as the curtain comes down on another dramatic season.
Champions League: Top Five Secured
Thanks to England securing one of UEFA’s two extra European Performance Spots (EPS), the top five teams in the Premier League will qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool have already sealed the Premier League title and their return to Europe’s top competition.
Arsenal claimed second place after a 1-0 win over Newcastle United, with Declan Rice scoring the winner.
Newcastle United, Chelsea, and Aston Villa are all locked at 66 points, meaning only two of them will join Liverpool and Arsenal in the Champions League next season.
A fifth spot will go to the Europa League winners – either Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur, depending on the outcome of the final.
Europa League: FA Cup and Sixth Place
Crystal Palace’s historic FA Cup victory over Manchester City guarantees them Europa League qualification regardless of their league finish.
The sixth-placed Premier League team will also qualify for the Europa League, unless they win a separate UEFA competition.
If either Chelsea or Tottenham win the Conference League final or Europa League final, they would secure Europa League places, which could further shuffle the allocation depending on league position.
Conference League: Newcastle’s Carabao Cup Safety Net
Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win secured a Conference League spot, but only if they finish outside the top five.
Should Newcastle finish fifth or higher, their Conference League ticket will pass down to the next highest league finisher not already qualified for Europe.
This keeps hopes alive for teams like Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Brighton, who are all within reach of a seventh-place finish.
Chelsea’s Final Twist in the Tale
Chelsea face Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final. A win gives them Europa League qualification, regardless of their Premier League finish.
If Chelsea win and also finish in the top five, it could open another European slot for teams finishing lower in the table.
Final Day Fixtures to Watch
What’s at Stake
Five Premier League clubs will play in the Champions League next season.
Two more will join the Europa League—one through the league and one via the FA Cup (Crystal Palace).
The final Conference League spot depends on Newcastle’s finish, Chelsea’s European final, and who finishes seventh.
As the Premier League heads into its final weekend, the stakes have rarely been higher. One goal, one win, one result elsewhere could change the entire European map for English clubs in 2025/26.
