In one of the most dramatic UEFA Champions League semifinals in recent memory, Inter Milan defeated FC Barcelona 4–3 after extra time at San Siro, sealing a 7–6 aggregate victory to book their place in the final. Davide Frattesi emerged as the hero, scoring a decisive goal in the 99th minute to settle a pulsating two-legged tie that had everything—brilliance, chaos, comebacks, and late drama.
The first leg in Montjuïc had already delivered fireworks with a 3–3 draw, setting up a tense and open second leg. Inter capitalized on their home advantage early on. Lautaro Martínez opened the scoring, extending his fine form in Europe, before Hakan Çalhanoğlu doubled the lead with a stunning long-range strike. But Barcelona, known for their resilience, responded in style. Eric García pulled one back, Dani Olmo equalized, and Raphinha's second-half finish looked set to take Xavi’s side into the final.
However, in true Champions League fashion, the drama was far from over. Francesco Acerbi’s stoppage-time header sent the tie into extra time, igniting the San Siro faithful once more. Just nine minutes into the added period, substitute Mehdi Taremi found space down the right and cut the ball back for Frattesi, who calmly slotted past Marc-André ter Stegen. That strike not only decided the match but will live long in Inter folklore.
Yann Sommer also played a pivotal role in Inter’s progression, making a string of key saves throughout the match, particularly during Barcelona’s late offensive surges. His composure and leadership from the back were instrumental in withstanding the pressure.
With this victory, Inter Milan returns to the Champions League final for the second time in three seasons. They now await the winner of the other semifinal between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. The final, scheduled for May 31 at the Allianz Arena in Munich, promises to be another European classic.
