Alejandro Garnacho has cast serious doubt over his Manchester United future following a bit-part role in the club’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League final. Despite featuring in every round leading up to the final, the 20-year-old Argentine winger was only introduced in the 71st minute — a move that left both the player and fans perplexed.
Speaking after the match, Garnacho hinted at frustration and disillusionment: “Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes. I don’t know.” His remarks quickly ignited speculation that he could be considering a departure from Old Trafford this summer.
Fueling the fire further, Garnacho’s brother, Roberto, took to social media to vent his anger at the coaching decision, accusing manager Rúben Amorim of “throwing him under the bus.” The post added to mounting criticism of Amorim’s game plan and treatment of young talent during the final.
Under pressure, Amorim defended the decision, stating that it was purely tactical and citing Garnacho’s missed opportunity in the semi-final against Athletic Bilbao as a contributing factor. However, this explanation has done little to cool tensions or reassure supporters of the player’s long-term role in the squad.
According to reports, Manchester United are now open to offers for Garnacho, with a valuation estimated between £50–70 million. Several top European clubs are said to be monitoring the situation closely, especially given Garnacho’s age, potential, and marketability.
This episode comes at a crucial time for the club, who ended the 2024–25 season without European qualification for the first time in over a decade. Garnacho’s unrest highlights the broader uncertainties at Manchester United, where Rúben Amorim and sporting director Sir Jim Ratcliffe are preparing for a major squad overhaul.
As United brace for a pivotal summer of restructuring, Garnacho’s future — once seen as foundational to the club’s long-term vision — is suddenly in jeopardy. The coming weeks will be decisive not just for the player, but for a club in desperate need of direction and cohesion.
