Schade Stars as Brentford Edge Manchester United in 7-Goal Thriller

Published on May 04, 2025

Brentford ignited their European hopes with a pulsating 4-3 victory over Manchester United at the Gtech Community Stadium, thanks in large part to a sensational performance from Kevin Schade. The German forward netted twice and led a dominant attacking display that was just enough to withstand a furious late rally from United's youthful lineup.

Manchester United took the lead early, with Mason Mount opening the scoring in the 14th minute following a slick one-two with Amad Diallo. The Red Devils, fielding their youngest-ever Premier League starting XI with an average age of just over 22 years, looked sharp in the opening quarter. But Brentford quickly wrestled back momentum.

Mikkel Damsgaard leveled for the hosts just before the 30-minute mark, reacting first to a loose ball from a long throw that deflected into his path. That equalizer sparked the Bees into life, and their pressure paid off again minutes before halftime. Christian Nørgaard whipped in a pinpoint cross from the right, and Schade rose highest to head home, putting Brentford 2-1 up at the break.

The second half began with Brentford pressing high, and once again, Schade was the difference-maker. This time it was Bryan Mbeumo who delivered the assist, floating a cross that Schade met with precision for his second goal of the night. With the score at 3-1 and the Red Devils’ defense in disarray, Brentford took full control. Yoane Wissa made it 4-1 with a low strike into the bottom corner, seemingly putting the result beyond doubt.

However, Manchester United refused to lie down. Erik ten Hag’s side showed admirable fight in the final 10 minutes, led by Alejandro Garnacho who pulled one back in the 82nd minute after latching onto a through ball from Omari Forson. The visitors continued to surge forward, and in stoppage time, Amad Diallo curled in a stunning finish to make it 4-3 and set up a tense finale.

Despite the scare, Brentford held firm, and the final whistle was met with jubilant celebrations from the home supporters. The win moves Brentford to ninth in the Premier League table with 52 points, keeping them firmly in the hunt for a place in Europe next season.

Kevin Schade was rightfully named man of the match. His two goals and constant threat on the counter gave Brentford the cutting edge they needed. Manager Thomas Frank praised his side’s resilience and attacking verve, stating, “We played with purpose, pace, and personality. Schade showed tonight why we believe in his talent.”

For Manchester United, the loss is a bitter pill and their 16th of the league campaign, equaling their worst-ever Premier League record from the 1989–90 season. The result adds pressure ahead of their Europa League semi-final midweek, where Ten Hag will need a response from his young but talented squad.

As the season draws to a close, Brentford look poised to challenge for continental competition, while United face questions about depth, defensive frailties, and their long-term direction.
