Javier Mascherano has delivered a frank assessment of Inter Miami’s form slump, stating that “everything is not fine” following their fourth loss in five games. The latest defeat—a bruising 4-1 loss to Minnesota United—has raised serious questions about the club’s trajectory under the Argentine tactician.
In his post-match press conference, Mascherano didn’t sugarcoat the team’s position, admitting that Inter Miami’s defensive issues are costing them dearly.
“We’ve conceded 14 goals in five games. That’s not acceptable at this level,” Mascherano said. “Most of these goals are from individual lapses, not the system.”
The coach also acknowledged the club’s heavy reliance on Lionel Messi, calling it “impossible not to depend on him” given his influence. However, Mascherano stressed the need for broader collective responsibility.
“Yes, we rely on Leo. But we can’t expect him to fix everything. The team must step up—defensively, mentally, and tactically.”
As Mascherano faces mounting pressure, his focus has shifted toward team morale and unity. “Spending these four or five days together is key—team building, open conversations, no distractions,” he added.
With the Club World Cup preparation approaching, Mascherano must quickly implement tactical adjustments to steady the ship. The coach hinted at reshuffling his backline and reconsidering pressing triggers as Inter Miami prepares to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.
The recent results have fueled criticism, with fans and pundits questioning whether Mascherano can reverse the slide or if his time in Miami may be cut short.
With morale shaken and confidence dwindling, Inter Miami’s next few matches will be crucial—not just for results, but for restoring unity and proving the club is more than just a marketing vehicle powered by Messi.
